Jack’s Story
One of our grantees, Jack Combs, was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1969. There he sustained an injury of shrapnel in his arm, but continued to serve through the end of his tour before being granted an honorable discharge. We’re so pleased to be able to help Jack maintain his ability to stay mobile.
Ainsley
We awarded a grant to Ainsley, who at age 14 was playing hide and seek with her brother and fell from a tree, instantly becoming quadriplegic. Today, Ainsley is a top academic student, volunteers with Spinal Cord Injury BC, and is a Youth Ambassador for the Rick Hansen Foundation. She would like to attend University with the goal of becoming a lawyer. We’re glad to help Ainsley stay mobile so she can follow her dreams!
Gaven
We recently awarded a grant to Gaven, a 12-year old boy with Spina Bifida, and his mother Tiffany. Tiffany has recently taken custody of four other children and quit her job as a nurse to care for them. The van they want to purchase has a seat in the front for Gaven and a lift on the back for his wheelchair, as well as seating for the four other children. We’re glad to be able to help all six of them reach their mobility goals!
