About Us

About Bridge to Mobility

Bridge to Mobility is the national non-profit organization dedicated solely to increasing accessibility to wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV). We have mobilized the WAV industry, including leaders, manufacturers, dealers, suppliers, and employees, in this mission to promote and support the mobility access needs of persons with disabilities for adaptive vehicles and related equipment. We collaborate with and work alongside our national partners to help the 96 percent of wheelchair users who do not have access to a WAV. With each grant awarded, we are improving the educational attainment, employment and recreational opportunities, medical outcomes, and life in general for people in wheelchairs.

Our team is led by Gerhard Schmidt, Executive Director, and Marilyn Clark, Board Chairperson. Marilyn’s late husband, Taylor Clark, was the co-founder of MobilityWorks, the largest distributor of wheelchair accessible vehicles in the country. Taylor passed right before MobilityWorks was sold to a private equity firm, with the intention of dedicating his time to the foundation and changing lives and access for all in need. After his passing, Marilyn was invited to join the board to serve alongside Gerhard, and together they transitioned the foundation to an industry-wide initiative to give every partner the opportunity to act as an agent of change on a national level.

We have an opportunity to make an incredible impact and directly change the lives of so many individuals with a disability in the United States—bridging the gap to mobility and allowing them to fully enjoy their lives with freedom. We are committed to Accelerating Accessibility.
